One of oldest markets of Kolkata, Maniktala Bazar, is easily identified by its clock tower. No one, however, is sure about when the tower was built. It will remain an important childhood landmark for me. My impression of the clock tower in pen and pencil and in water colour….

Here’s a pencil sketch of four senior citizens. I find them early in the morning sitting together on a bamboo bench by the roadside as I return from my morning walk. Sometimes I overhear them discussing politics or some events that caught their attention as they watched the news last night. They are mostly quiet and peaceful but sometimes, especially before the elections, I have seen them engaged in heated discussions! But their camaraderie is never to be missed and it may well be the time of the day that they really enjoy.
