Review: Faber-Castell Tri-Colour Pencils

Recently my young friend Utsav Sarkar gifted me with a nice red box of Faber-Castell Tri-Colour Pencils. Faber-Castell, established in 1761, is internationally known as the largest manufacturer of coloured pencils. It is also a leading maker of all kinds of writing instruments and art supplies.

Faber-Castell is making high quality pencils for the last 250 years. The coloured pencil set that I have in my hand contains 24 pencils of assorted colours. These pencils come in a light cardboard package. Since it is difficult to put all the pencils back into the packet after use, if you intend to work indoors, it would be more convenient to have a large enough pencil holder to store these pencils and discard the package.

These Faber-Castell coloured pencils are triangular in shape for easier grip and control during fast sketching and drawing. The pigments are bright and the rich hue of these pencils blends well and creates a beautiful effect on paper. The lead of the pencil is securely bonded and it won’t break easily while sharpening. These pencils can be sharpened by using any regular sharpener.

The colours of the pencils include silver and gold besides all the other usual colours. The variety of browns, reds and greens would help in drawing human figures and rich foliage. These Faber-Castell coloured pencils make consistent and smooth marks and create a rich texture. The pencils come pre-sharpened and these pencils won’t require as frequent sharpening as ordinary brands would. I loved the even colour saturation and Faber-Castell Tri-Colour Pencils will add a rich finish to your drawings.

Faber-Castell Tri-Colour Pencils should be easily available in your local stationery or art material shop. They are a great tool for budding or casual artists and illustrators. The box I am using is priced at Rs. 200 in India. Highly recommended!
