Who provides cooked food and drinks to such a huge population? Perhaps these small, non-descript roadside snacks shops and eateries? They open so early in the morning and refuse to close before late at night. In the morning they serve tea (chai). Late morning you could have a variety of snacks for breakfast: puri, kachori, parantha, samosa, jalebi. You name it and you would have it.

At noon, you can have your lunch there: rice, chapatis, dal, sabzi. The same shops provide you with your evening tiffin and your dinner at night. Day after day, without fail. They are never closed. No holidays, no illnesses, no emergencies. Isn’t that a miracle?

Who will feed those who can’t cook or make cooking arrangements at home? Those who have no time to cook? Who will provide them food at a very affordable price to satisfy their hunger and quench their thirst? Who else but these — the ubiquitous roadside eateries — a uniquely Indian version of small restaurants?
